Abe Ng
Proprietor
President, Founder and CEO of Sushi Maki
With integrity, ingenuity and a true passion for better eating and living, Abe Ng was born to run restaurants; you might say it’s in his genes – he’s the son of immigrant restaurant operators. Today, Abe is the President, CEO and CSO
(Chief Sushi Officer) of Miami-based Sushi Maki and Canton Chinese Restaurants. In this role, he oversees the strategic development and management of all the 15 locations owned and operated under the Sushi Maki and Canton brands, and is a partner with Whole Foods Markets for sushi stations in South Florida Region stores.
Through his varied business and restaurant operations background, Abe is committed to broadening the reach of Sushi Maki’s cuisine to new locations and new audiences.
His business experience began with Ernst & Young LLP in Miami, where he worked as a real estate and hospitality financial analyst after graduating from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, and extends to his entrepreneurial efforts, including the development of Sushi Maki and an earlier launch of Wrapido Restaurants in the Miami area. Abe is steadily building Sushi Maki the old fashioned way: through hard work, creative thinking and
a genuine love for tasty wholesome Asian food and warm hospitality.
Abe’s knowledge of restaurant management stems from a long family history in the industry. He is certified by the California Sushi Academy and trained at the California Sushi Chef Institute. His efforts to create a modern Japanese restaurant experience have been recognized both on the national and local media. Sushi Maki was recently awarded the 2011 “Minority Business of the Year” by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and recognized as a finalist for 2011 “Business of the Year” by the South Florida Business Journal. Abe was also just named as part of the Miami Herald’s 2011 class of “20 Under 40”, and honored by the South Florida Business Journal in their “40 Under 40” awards in 2010.
A Miami native, Mr. Ng serves on various boards, including the Greater Miami Convention and Visitor Bureau, Business Improvement District of Coral Gables, Baptist Health Foundation and the Florida Restaurant Association. He is also a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization where he served as Chapter Chairperson in 2010, the year the Miami Chapter was recognized as world-wide Chapter of the Year. Abe, a graduate of Miami Palmetto High School, received his Bachelor of Science Degree with honors from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, and recently completed Owner President Management (OPM) program
at the Harvard Business School.
